What next for 2018? Peace, tranquility and, above all, something to nourish the soul. Un-plug, switch off, and drop your digital dial, as Shakti Kumaon and Shakti Leti 360 reopen for 2017/18 full of the promise of a true digital detox. This season, Shakti’s Village Walks – exploring the foothills of the world’s most majestic mountain range on foot – are encouraging guests to leave technology behind, disconnect from the fast-pace digital world and simply ‘be’.
Ideal for burnt-out city workers, worn-out souls, or simply those in need of a well-earned rest, Shakti’s Kumaon and Leti 360 itinerary encourages guests to escape and recalibrate. Naturally remote, the destination renders the digital world redundant; this is a trip during which there is no choice but to disconnect, embrace ‘slow travel’ and be empowered by the inspiring people, cultures and landscapes in the north Indian hill state of Uttarakhand.
The experience begins traveling by train from Delhi, slowly escaping into blissful countryside. Accompanied by local porters and guides and a private chef, the first part of the 7-night itinerary will see guests walk between remote villages across three days. Guests stay in traditional houses that Shakti has spruced up to provide serious comfort without compromising on authenticity – pashmina blankets, fluffy duvets and cosy fireplaces, are complemented by traditional artifacts and Indian artwork. Expect spectacular sunrises, visits to local schools, meals cooked in a tiny wood-burning oven and incredibly clear skies for star-gazing.
Arriving at 360° Leti will give a real sense of achievement. Having reached this mountain wilderness at 8,000 feet, guests will settle into one of four private pavilions – a perfect place to enjoy a new-found state of enlightenment and really relax into the unwinding process. Throughout the journey, guests will dine on healthy meals designed to sustain after a day’s hard walking from a menu of family recipes ranging from Parsi Apricot chicken and the delicious Burmese dish; Khowsuey, to Samosas, and Kumaoni lamb curry made with the the finest local produce and the freshest ingredients picked directly from the Houses’ own herb and vegetable gardens.
With perennially snow-capped peaks and some of the most inspiring mountain scenery in the world, going off-grid with Shakti Himalaya is a true once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Shakti Himalaya offers an seven-night / eight-day off-grid journey from £4,702/$5,860 per person, including the Shakti Kumaon Village Walk combined with Shakti 360 Leti on a fully inclusive basis, all activities, accompanying English speaking guide, private chef, support guide and porters, car at disposal and taxes, as well as return transfers between Kathgodam station / Pantnagar airport, village houses and Leti.
