Traveling has the power to change you, but travelers can also change a place — for better or worse. Make a positive impact the next time you travel with one of these seven trips that are full of adventure and also benefit local communities and conservation.

Ecuador’s Trees and Trails: On this trip to Ecuador’s Cotopaxi Volcano, lend a hand with reforestation efforts, painting interpretive signs and performing trail maintenance. While there, enjoy horseback riding in the foothills, trekking in the Eastern Andean Cordillera and mountain biking in Cotopaxi National Park.  target=”_blank”>

Bikes for Africa: TDA Global Cycling’s 7,000-mile Tour d’Afrique travels through 10 countries, departing from the Pyramids of Giza in Cairo, crossing the Equator and deserts, and traveling down the wildlife-rich “Elephant Highway” to finish in the shadow of Table Mountain in Cape Town. For every rider who completes the four-month tour, TDA donates a bicycle through its foundation and local partners to address transportations needs in Africa.

Tag Fish in Belize– Join Frontiers International Travel for a week of Permit fishing and tagging at Belcampo Lodge in Southern Belize. The goal of the satellite tagging effort is to determine what level of fishing the fishery can support and to identify the links between the fishing areas and Permit spawning locations.

Protect the American West: During a stay at the American Prairie Reserve’s Kestrel Camp in Montana, guests discover the transformative power of the natural world from wildlife guides, naturalists, scientists and knowledgeable locals. The camp’s five climate-controlled suites offer a chance to unwind and recharge, complete with en-suite bathrooms and sweeping views.

Save the Turtles: Visit Costa Rica’s Pacuare Reserve and join biologists for two nights of research at the most important nesting ground of leatherback turtles in the country. Whitewater rafting on the rapids of the Pacuare River and jungle adventures like climbing a giant kapok tree and swimming in the pool beneath a 70-foot waterfall at Selva Bananito Reserve round out the itinerary.

Citizen Scientist in Antarctica: Book a cruise to the Antarctic Peninsula with Adventure Life and take part in citizen science projects aboard the ship, including seabird surveys, collecting water salinity samples and recording weather data. On Zodiac excursions, watch for floating icebergs and feeding whales, and visit penguin rookeries, seal wallows and scientific bases.

Mountain Bike for Zambia: World Bike Relief has partnered with tour operator Tourissimo to present a mountain biking tour in the Apennine Mountains of Italy. The weeklong trip is being led by Rebecca Rusch, a 7x mountain biking World Champion. Funds raised through this trip will help empower students, healthcare workers, and entrepreneurs in rural Zambia and give them access to reliable transportation and a brighter future. Tourissimo is also donating two Buffalo bikes per rider.
