Help a Horse Day – New Mexico Resort Announces Commitment to Helping Horses

Tamaya Horse Rehabilitation Program

The Tamaya Horse Rehabilitation Program, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located at the Stables at Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa, announces the inaugural Tamaya Horse Rehabilitation Week. Between May 29 and June 2, 2018, Tamaya and Horse Rehab will host a series of events to educate local residents, resort guests and businesses about the plight of New Mexico horses and raise funds to help abandoned and neglected horses throughout the state.

Now in its sixth year, the rehabilitation program has rescued 103 horses since its inception. The Stables at Tamaya is currently home to 52 rescue horses but only has the capacity to add five newly rescued horses annually. “Having spent a great deal of time at the stables volunteering myself, this is a cause that is very near and dear to my heart,” said Herb Rackliff, General Manager at Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort & Spa. “Some of these unfortunate animals are dropped off in remote areas of our state without access to shelter or resources and some are voluntarily surrendered. That’s where our on-site rescue team comes in to help give them a fighting chance. We are hosting the Tamaya Horse Rehabilitation Week to educate the public and raise funds to expand the program in the hopes of rescuing more than 100 horses annually, giving these incredible creatures the futures they deserve.”

Tamaya Horse Rehabilitation Week is a five-day educational and fundraising program that teaches the importance of the rehabilitation process and creating a supportive environment for the animals to recover and thrive. Each day has an individual theme and activities including a golf tournament, youth education and volunteer day at the stables, community rodeo, evening gala, and more.

Rounds for Rescue

Tamaya Horse Rehabilitation Week will kick-off on Tuesday, May 29 with the “Rounds for Rescues” golf tournament. The shotgun-style tournament will take place at the resort’s acclaimed Twin Warriors Golf Club, and entry is $150 per player.

Youth Volunteer Day

Wednesday, May 30 will be a youth volunteer day. Local junior and high school students will visit the Stables at Tamaya to meet and interact with horses in the rehabilitation program. The students will help groom, feed, and learn how to take care of the horses for the day.

“Adopt”A Horse Day

On Thursday, May 31, local businesses will be invited to take part in “Adopt a Horse” day. For a $50 registration donation, organizations will visit the stables and meet the horses currently in the Tamaya Horse Rehabilitation Program. Attendees will be treated to a catered lunch, followed by an “adoption auction” in which wranglers will introduce each of the horses and talk about their background and history. Businesses will “bid” for the chance to sponsor or symbolically “adopt” a horse through the auction. Each business that adopts a horse will receive a framed photo of the animal as well as frequent updates on the horse and its rehabilitation progress.

Community Rodeo

On Friday, June 1 the Stables at Tamaya will host a community rodeo with all of the proceeds benefitting the Tamaya Horse Rehabilitation Program. Local cowboys and cowgirls will participate in traditional rodeo competitions such as barrel racing, team roping, breakaway roping, and more. This family-friendly event will feature stick horse races for children and the opportunity for guests to meet and interact with horses in the rehabilitation program. Entrance to the rodeo is $20 for adults and $10 for children.

Horseshoes and Heels Gala

The week-long fundraiser will conclude on Saturday, June 2 with a VIP Day and luncheon at the Stables at Tamaya in the morning followed by the Horseshoes and Heels Gala in the evening.

Guests who attend the Saturday evening gala will be invited to a VIP Day at the stables enjoying activities including horse lead-arounds, blacksmith demonstrations and more.

That evening, the resort will host the Horseshoes and Heels Gala, beginning with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. Attendees will enjoy a four-course meal specially prepared by the resort’s culinary team, and a live and silent auction for guests to bid on that evening. After dinner, there will be a live band. Tickets are $125 per person and $900 per table. A discounted room rate of $189.00 is available for guests attending the gala.

“Buy a Child a Ride”

For those who can’t make it to the golf tourney or gala, Tamaya Horse Rehab also offers “Buy a Child a Ride” tickets. For $50, you can purchase a wrangler led trail ride for a deserving New Mexico child.

Media sponsors of Tamaya Horse Rehabilitation Week include the Albuquerque Journal, KQTM-FM 101.7 The Team (ESPN), Albuquerque The Magazine, Yelp, Hutton Broadcasting, Successful Meetings, Smart Meetings, Meetings Today, and Prevue magazine.
