Discover Adventure in Greece

Kalymnos rock climbing

With a predictable climate, a landscape that is four-fifths mountains and one of the longest coastlines in the world, few places offer as much diversity as the short-haul destination of Greece.

The following resorts offer adventure experiences to awaken the intrepid explorer inside you and get to know the local region in all its untouched beauty. Including everything from philosophical Nordic walking in the lush wine region of Halkidiki to rock climbing in the spectacular gorges of Crete, there is something for everyone in this breathtaking country.

Following extensive renovations, the divine Cavo Spada Resort & Spa is encouraging guests to get out and see the surrounding area of natural beauty. Partnering with ‘Sports Tours Hellas’ they are offering a range of bespoke new bike tours in the surrounding region, including a World Biosphere Reserve.

With a wide range of daily cycling programs (16 tours to choose from and 999 places to explore), the routes are designed to combine both rides by the sea and those along meandering mountain paths.  Fitness loving guests can choose routes that take them through outstanding landscapes, such as the impressive and famous gorge Samaria Gorge, a 17km gorge stretching through Crete; a challenging cycle route and an exhilarating hike with jaw dropping views.

Miraggio Thermal Spa Resort is offering guests the opportunity to gain a sense of fulfillment and self-gratification with a range of new and carefully designed waking trails, each designed to highlight the peninsula’s unique geography and exceptional views. One of the major highlights of these new routes – guests can follow the footsteps of the world famous Greek philosopher and teacher Aristotle.

It is the forests of the Halkidiki region where Aristotle came to think, reflect on his theories, and spiked his interest in botany. Visitors to Halkidiki can explore these same forests, walk the coast with scenic views of charming pine forests of Sithonia, navigate their way between low rise mountains to visit Paliouri village, stop the historic St Nikolas Church; or take in the views of the Toroneos Gulf and traditional olive tree gardens.

For the real thrill seekers, Santa Marina Beach Resort offers access to Crete’s extensive mountaineering and climbing options – and with more than 3,000 bolted routes on the island, adventure enthusiasts will be spoiled for choice.

A short drive from the resort, a number of recommended rock climbing routes are located for guests to enjoy and challenge themselves.   Kalathas, a climbing deck near the sea of Akrotiri has 30 routes for climbers of all abilities, with levels ranging from IV-VII. For more experienced climbers, there are more difficult options that suit V to VIII levels, including Stavros and Akrotiri with 6 routes, Gigilos of 15 routes above the famous Samaria Gorge as well as routes above Therisso Gorge.
