Visitors to the Land of Enchantment can experience the grandeur of Chaco Culture National Historical Park in luxury and style when overnight glamping trips from Albuquerque’s Hotel Chaco resume for a new season on March 19, 2019. Hotel Chaco, a boutique property inspired by the ancient architecture and civilization of Chaco Canyon, launched the tours in 2017 with partner Heritage Inspirations, LLC. The excursions proved so popular that two new date options have been added to coincide with new moon occurrences, offering participants an unprecedented night sky experience to cap off their day exploring the mysterious ruins. Day trips to Chaco Canyon are also offered every Saturday departing from Hotel Chaco.
Located in northwestern New Mexico, Chaco Canyon National Monument, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was home to a thriving Pueblo culture between 850 – 1250 AD. What remains of the timber and sandstone buildings – designed to align with the movement of the sun, moon and stars – makes for fascinating exploration, all in a setting of natural desert beauty. The trips offer modern travelers an easy way to access the remote site three and a half hours from Albuquerque. All transportation, gourmet meals, luxurious tents and other amenities are provided, allowing guests to simply relax and absorb the scenery. “For 2019, in addition to our Equinox trips, we’re excited to add two new moon tour dates that will allow our guests to experience Chaco Canyon as an International Dark Sky Park,” said Angelisa Murray, owner of Heritage Inspirations. “We will sit around the campfire under a canopy of billions of stars. The next morning we’ll wake up refreshed in our glamping tents and enjoy a sunrise hike with French press coffee.”
Overnight guests will find that no comfort has been spared. Spacious canvas tents are outfitted with plush mattresses on raised bed frames, and a multi-course gourmet, wine-paired dinner will be prepared and served under the stars. Day trip participants also enjoy a special picnic lunch in the majestic desert setting. For all guests, informative guides offer insights into the area and provide all the tools needed to dive deeper into the mysteries of Chaco.
Overnight glamping trips are offered March 19-20 (spring equinox), April 5-6 (new moon), May 3-4 (new moon) and and September 22-23 (fall equinox) and cost $899 plus tax per person. Single occupancy supplement is $100 (with a Hotel Chaco room rate of only $189 plus tax available for pre- and post-tour nights.) Guide gratuities are not included.
Day tours will be offered on Saturdays beginning in March through November 2019. Cost per person is $275 plus tax ($249 for Hotel Chaco guests, who also enjoy a special $189 room rate on pre- and post-tour nights.) Tour details and booking information can be found here.
