A brand new cross-country skiing package from multi-activity holiday specialists Undiscovered Mountains offers travelers an exclusive opportunity to stay in a traditional, rustic Norwegian hytte.
The new and exclusive hytte expedition in Venabu, Rondane National Park in Norway is a brand new offering for 2020, and is only available with Undiscovered Mountains.
The adventurous tour features a unique expedition to a traditional Norwegian hytte, which can only be reached by skiing through the mountains. Travelers will stay overnight in the cozy hytte among the majestic Norwegian mountains, keeping warm with the wood-burning stove which will also be used for melting snow for water and cooking dinner.
Hytter are a huge part of Norwegian culture, with one in three Norwegian families owning a hytte and locals spending the holidays visiting each other by ski in their hytter. The small mountain cabins nestled in the Norwegian wilderness, provide Norwegians with a welcome retreat from city life and allow them to unplug and embrace nature.
Travel to and from the rural hytte will utilize skills gained in the earlier portion of the trip, as travelers ski through different conditions, spot wildlife tracks, orienteer and even night ski.
Norway is the home of Nordic skiing and cross-country skiing making it the perfect location to learn these new skills and put them into practice in the snow-clad Norwegian landscape. Offering some of the best cross-country skiing in the world, Norway’s extensive countryside provides skiers with miles of uninterrupted snow of rolling hills, frozen lakes and slopes.
Three days of the trip will be dedicated to learning cross-country skiing in preparation for the hytte expedition. Visitors will be given ski lessons from a fully qualified instructor, who will guide participants on everything they need to know to take on the journey to the hytte.
Further adventures on this tour include cross country skiing through the wilderness, with excursions including animal tracking where skiers will be taught how to decipher animal tracks from native Norwegian animals including moose, reindeer and hares, and orienteering.
A definite highlight of the trip is the opportunity to experience one of Norway’s most inspiring activities, night skiing – a definite bucket list experience. Night skiing offers a change in senses allowing the sensations of skiing to be felt more acutely making it the ideal learning experience for honing skiing skills even more effectively.
Other unique winter activities on offer include mushing a team of huskies, snowshoeing through the Norwegian wilderness, riding a horse-drawn sleigh and ice fishing.
This brand new tour exploring the beauty of the Norwegian countryside is a truly unique experience, offering the opportunity to stay in a traditional Norwegian hytte which few ever get to experience.
The Norwegian Cross Country Skiing Week tour costs from £1598pp including return airport transfers, all ski equipment and passes, and guided tour with fully qualified instructor.
